WLA: 25 years of quality training, assessment and technical support

WLA (Welsh Leisure Activities) has provided training, assessment and technical support across the UK since 1992. WLA is owned and directed by Chris Allen (MA MIA IOSH) and based in Swansea, South Wales.

At WLA we believe in independent learning. We support learners to be able to make confident and competent decisions on risk benefits, and ultimately to become independent participants and practitioners.

What we provide

WLA provides training courses and assessments for National Governing Body walking and climbing awards, including Mountain Leader and Single Pitch Awards, as well as Validations for activities including coasteering and gorge walking. We offer technical support for outdoor education providers.

A note from Chris Allen

Chris Allen WLA

We have had a big change at WLA recently, with Bill and Sandra handing WLA over to me.  Bill has sadly had to retire due to poor health. I am fortunate that he will still be in the background offering his support and advice.

I’ve worked with Welsh Leisure Activities (WLA) from day one – that’s over 25 years of working on a diverse range of courses all over the UK. In the process I’ve had the opportunity to meet, work with, train and assess a great and varied bunch of people. I’m looking forward to continuing with this rewarding and enjoyable work.

Going forward
WLA will continue to provide a full range of National Governing Body training and assessment courses and technical support. We’re looking forward to welcoming some new faces at WLA as we expand our team of course trainers, directors and technical advisors.

My aim for WLA is to continue to provide the same high standard and quality of courses and support that we were all used to under Bill and Sandra Beynon.
